Ss can know how to persuade others to save water by their own words.

Ⅲ Teaching procedures

Step 1: Warming up

1. Free talk as usual

2. Ask Ss to watch a video about saving water and ask Ss what is video about.

Step 2: Pre-reading

Ask several Ss about how to save water. And write them on the blackboard.

Step 3: While-reading

1. Global reading:

Read the whole passage quickly and find the main idea of the text

Invite one student to write it on the blackboard.

2. Detail reading

Ask Ss to scan the following question, and then ask several Ss to read loudly one by one

Q: What are the functions of water at home and at work?

Q: How many ways does the author list in the text?

Step 4: Post-reading

Do a discussion about an experience which you persuade other to save water.

Step 5: Summary & Homework

1. Ask Ss to summarize what we have learned today.

2. After class, please search more information about saving water.

Water is very important for us. We must drink water every day, we can’t live without water.

As we all know water plays an important part in people’s daily lives. More and more water is needed in the modern society. So we should try to save it. Water is everywhere around us. At home, we use water to wash clothes, wash dishes, cook rice, clean the flat, have showers, and clean our teeth and so on. At work, people use water to put out fires, grow vegetables, and make things in factories and so on. Water is important for us, isn’t it? There isn’t much water on the earth. It is not inexhaustible. It is very valuable. We must save it.

Therefore, to find new ways to save water is an urgent task. First, we should pass strict laws to control any waste of water. Second, scientists must even harder to purify sea water, and try to find substitute to reduce the use of fresh water.
