Teaching aims:

Knowledge aims:

Students can understand the meaning and usage of some words, such as: move, hand, hurt.

Students will learn to use the sentence pattern: what’s the matter?

Ability aims:

Students will have a better improvement in their reading ability.

Students will express their own ideas freely using what they have learned today.

Emotional aims:

Students will foster their interest of learning English and would like to cooperate with others in class.

After learning this lesson, students will be more confident of communicating with others in English.

Teaching key points and difficult points:

Key points:

The meaning and the usage of move, hand, hurt and sentence pattern: what’s the matter?

Act out this story fluently.

Difficult Points:

How to build their confidence of learning English.

How to apply what they have learned into their daily life.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Warm-up and Lead-in

1. Daily greeting

Greet with students briefly.

2. Say a rhythm together (whose cake is this?)

Whose cake is this?

Oh, Chris! Oh, Chris!

Whose cake is this?

It’s my cake.

Let’s eat by the lake.

Ask students stand up and sing the rhythm with action.

Show a ball and ask them: Whose ball is this?

Step 2 Pre-reading

1. Teach and learn new words: move, hurt, hand.

2. Divide students into 3 groups, ask them to play a game: figure show. Which group is faster and more accurately. The teacher will give them 2 points.

Step 3 While-reading

1. First reading

The teacher will read the dialog for the students and ask them to pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation of these sentences.

2. Second reading.

Students will read the dialog by themselves and answer 2 questions on the blackboard.

a. Can the ball move?

b. What’s the matter with Bobby?

Active group and correct answers will be given 3 points.

3. Listen to the recorder.

The teacher will play the recorder for the students and ask them to read after the recorder.

Step 4 Post-reading

Give students 5 minutes to practice the dialog with their group members and ask volunteers to act it out and give them some evaluation.

Step 5 Summary and homework

Summary: The teacher will congratulate the winners and clap for them.

Invite one of them to be my teaching assistant and help me review what we have learned today.

Homework: Ask students to tell their parents what they have learned today and perform this dialog with their friends.
