Step 1:Warming up
1. Greet to the students.
2. Guess a riddle:Teacher will draw a picture of mountains, and give students some clues, such as this mountain is 8,844.43 meters high and it is dangerous to climb.Then ask my students to guess where it is.According to their common sense, they will tell me it is Qomolangma.By this way, students will be familiar with today’s topic and have interests in learning today’s lesson.
Step 2:Pre-reading
Before reading, the teacher will show a picture which is chosen from
the passage, and ask students to predict which aspects about Qomolangma will be mentioned in this passage.Students will give different responses. By this activity, students’ interests will be aroused.
Step 3: While-reading
In this step, two activities should be included. They are fast reading and detailed reading. In fast reading, students need to conclude the main idea of each paragraph within 2mins and then check their answers. Students may tell me the fist paragraph is about the facts and dangers,the second paragraph is about the achievement of climbers and the last paragraph is about spirit climbers.
In detailed reading, based on the basic understanding of this text, students need to answer some questions.
1. What are the three achievements?
2. Why do so many people try to climb this mountain even though it is dangerous?
3. What does the spirit of the climbers tell us?
Step 4: Post-reading
1. Retell the passage according to the main idea of each paragraph.
2. Work with their desk mates and have a discussion about the difficulties you have met and the ways to solve it.
Step 5: Summary and Homework
1. Let the student summarize what we have learned today.
2. Write a short passage about how to be a successful man.
